New Zealand Holiday Home - Guests Comments

Our beach house at Opononi is near new having been completed in November 2004. Here's what our guests have written...

The website doesn't do it justice

the view is amazing and there are so many things to do. Plenty of room inside and out. Never had a problem with hot water or queues for bathrooms. Lovely neighbours as well as the Opononi locals. Am already planning our next trip back.
Sims family, Auckland - Christmas

Had a wonderful time under the one roof

All 7 cousins all aged under 7 playing wonderfully together. A big enough house for the parents to find piece elsewhere if they needed to. So rare to get such a fine big place to stay in. Thank you for providing that (and all of the linen & towels & a lot more eg a large & quite stocked pantry)!
Salmon extended family of 16 - November

Gathering of the Willinck-Mosford-Bull-Salmon-Embling clans

Came over to Auckland (from Australia) for a wedding and spent subsequent 5 days in Opononi. Great location. Variable weather but fun had by all. Disappointed only to find the folder of information on things to do, maps etc on our last day as someone had put it away in a cupboard. Thanks for a memorable few days.
Willinck, Mosford, Bull, Salmon, Embling clans, Australia and Auckland - November

A fantastic place to have a family 80th birthday reunion

Perris family - November

Our 3-generation family from Lancashire UK and Devonport NZ aged 1-73

Enjoyed sand boarding, kayaking, dam building - great fun.
Burfood family, UK and Auckland - October

Awesome weekend. Great house. Amazing view.

Wonderful place to relax, chill and enjoy the West side. Winter get away from heaven - rain, hail, storm, sun - god damn beautiful.
Valmai Piper and the T. Bay crew - July

We had a fantastic time

Enjoyed the views, plenty of space. Need to address the problem of ants. [Owner: We lay ant bait regularly and it's a continuous battle in the sandy soils.]
Well pleased with the facilities provided. Thanks.
Ayesha and friends (12 adults, 6 kids), Auckland - May

Great for a large group of singles and families with young babies

Lovely view and interesting town.
Rebecca Hay and friends, Warkworth - April

Thanks for an awesome time

This house is amazing, brilliant view. Lots of bugs though - lol. And lack of hot water, but otherwise amazing! Had a great time.
[Owner: 9 Adults, 14 kids (total 23) were staying. We've installed pressure reducers in the 4 x showers to help save hot water and have a super-size 240l hot water cylinder which is on full time (ie not rip-lay controlled) but teenagers will still use it all up! We've proven that 23 adults can shower without running out of hot water.]
Good, Page, Richardson, Morgan and Bakers families - April

Excellent overall presentation. Comfortable beds and sofas

Would come back again.
Jenny Howard, - March

We really put it to the test with 22 of us staying

but the facilities stood up to the test really well. Didn't hear of anyone having a cold shower. Snoring was the biggest issue and you have no control over that one. Thanks for the use of a marvellous facility and we would like to book again for next year.
David Hartles and 21 other Northland cyclists and supporters - March

This house was perfect for our huge family

6 adults, 13 kids! wish we could have stayed longer.
Kayaked across to the dunes - the dunes rock. the neighbour next door was awesome - he kept bringing us treats! What a view - wow! Love this house there's somewhere for everyone - the kids LOVED it! Runs on the beach were beautiful.
Kennedy, Semu, Handrick families - March

Great house for three families

We had an awesome time! Beautiful weather, lovely views. Enjoyed the kayaks, walking to Omapere, swimming by the Opononi beach ramp & ice creams. Fishing was great. Would love to come back one day.

We had the most fantastic time at your house

All of our friends that were with us were from overseas and they just thought it was the most amazing place. I was so impressed with the house and the way you organise everything and will definately be recommending it to other people (infact I already have!). We will definately be back again.
Kath Candy and friends, Auckland and UK - February

Dave's 40th gathering

It has been glorious. We will saviour the memories. Great plan thanks Doug.
Jim McLeod family and friends, Auckland - February

Millers stayed and enjoyed everything

Awesome house and views. Recomend going to Waimamaku beach (down beach road) to rock pools and ocean. Omapere beautiful too. Sand dunes fun - we kayaked over and saved the $20 for paid trip!
Miller extended family - January

The house is awesome! It's so big!

I love it here. My favourite room is the one on the second story next to the bathroom. Also the Orphanage is cool (the massive room on the 3rd floor). It's a great house for games like hide and seek. Plus it's great fun to jump off the wharf. All in all a totally awesome holiday.
- Ana, age 12

The house was ginormous! I loved it!

The beach was fantastic and great for walks. We went on some big walks in some forests too see the biggest Kauri tree. Jumping off the wharf was so much fun and everyone was really nice. Also went sand boarding - way fun. And kayaking - saw a giant ray while in kayak!! Wish I could stay here forever!! Thank you so much for letting me stay at your awesome house - I had the best holiday!
- Sylv, age 12

Perfect venue for our extended family, extended holiday

Room for everyone, sensational meals, lots of laughter, sunsets, sun, rain and fabulous humidity. Trips to Bay of Islands for Dolphin swimming, Poor Knights Islands for scuba diving added to the spectacular visits and places to visit and explore. Especially enjoyed night walks on the beach, exploring rock pools at South Head and sand boarding. Thankyou for creating this space for beautiful memories to be borne.
- Mandeleine

Like stepping back in time, the Hokianga

A wonderful place to come back to NZ and catching up with family and friends from OZ.

Great place, great house

Eleven of us here. House was big enough to accommodate us all. Had great fun over at the sand dunes. did some water skiing and kayaking. Some of us swam, went fishing and caught 11 fish. Had a meal at the local pub - very nice. Drove to Paihia one day, couldn't wait to get back here. We went horse riding. We have all felt very comfortable here and haven't missed home at all. It's sad to leave. Sure to be back.
Nilsson and Perry families, Auckland - January

Happy new year 2006

This house has been perfect, the neighbours are really cool. Kayaked to the sand dunes but Tim had to be rescued by a hot chick in a bikini. Damon, Jules, Alastair, Tracey and Dange managed to get there and back ok. The others went across on the $20 ferry and went sand boarding.
Louise and group of 22 friends - December-January

Too hot, too quiet with not enough trendy cafes

Left a day early to go and stay in the Hilton in Auckland before going back to the UK.
[This English family did not like our typical kiwi summer holiday experience and moaned about almost everything]
The Withers family, UK - Christmas

Thanks for the use of your home - had a great time

Lousy weather but found lots to do.
Schiffer family, Johannesburg, South Africa - early December

Great facilities, spacious house

Good place for a large group.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday

My best New Years holiday yet. The house was great especially for our large group of 23 people! No one felt claustrophobic as there is so much space for everyone to do their own thing or be together as a group if you choose. What a great place. Thanks so much.
Louise Rivalland and friends, Auckland – New Year

Extremely well catered for

A lot of thought has gone into catering for large groups/children. Beautiful location, spectacular views, friendly neighbours. Only wish that we could have stayed longer and had some sunshine! Thank you very much.
Jancys family and friends, Auckland - October

Had a great time

First week weather great, second week weather terrible. Caught some fish when we first arrived but nothing else - not through lack of trying. Had a good look around area and went sand tobogganing once. Went to Cape Reinga (top of the North Island) and 90 Mile Beach. Visited Kauri forest, Rawene, Labyrinth wood works - just a few of the things we did plus reading!! Very relaxing. Thank you!!

Just wanted to personally thank you on behalf of the gang - for our fabbbbbulous weekend, of which the house played a huge part! The facilities were immaculate and we really enjoyed the use of the kayaks. Many thanks again for the house and your help/communications leading up until the weekend.
Great choice by Neisha for an Easter getaway. Very impressive "Beach Escape" which catered for a large group superbly. Enjoyed some swimming, skiing, fishing and sand dune-ing!! Even got sunny weather for all four days. Thanks Doug and family for such a successful weekend. We'll be back.

Mahon Family, Auckland - January

Our stay at Opononi was delightful

Peaceful and refreshing with scenic views and accommodation that provided a relaxing holiday for all our extended family, with space, comfort and activities to fulfil them all both indoors and outdoors.
Fishing, especially outside the harbour was magnificent with groper and snapper feeding both our family and the neighbours, who joined us many times, showing us local fishing spots and guiding us over the bar.
Truly a wonderful location in a rural paradise where we all left refreshed, and look forward to returning to in the future.
Mullaly Family & friends, Auckland - Christmas

Your house is lovely
