New Zealand Holiday Home Handy TipsThese notes are designed to help you plan for your stay.
FoodYou will need to take supplies of fresh food and drink with you. There is a Four Square grocery store within a ten minute walk at Opononi which stocks most things. You can purchase meals at the Opononi tavern, the Omapere take-a-way/café or have a high quality dining experience at the Omapere Tourist Lodge. (Omapere is a 40 minute walk or a 3 minute drive away.)There is a main fridge/freezer in the kitchen and a half size supplementary fridge in the garage (ideal for drinks and bait). There's enough refrigerated storage for two families for a week or more. PantryOur pantry is stocked with tea, coffee, cooking oil, sugar etc. You are welcome to use these supplies – just replace any items that you finish or are in danger of running out. i.e. we ask that you to make a contribution to make up for what you use.Sheets, pillow slips and towels suppliedThe beds are all made up plus there are extra blankets in the linen cupboard also.WaterThe water is town supply and the council urge conservation during the peak summer holiday season.BarbequeThe barbeque is located on the deck. Should gas begin to run low during your holiday it can be filled at the Omapere service station.Mobile phone receptionThe mobile phone reception is excellent on the Vodafone network and poor on the Telecom network (we only get 50% of the blips on the screen on our Telecom 0274 digital phone - just ok for phone calls).EntertainmentWe believe that to have a complete break away from reality means leaving the TV, radio and newspapers at home! However, we do have a 29" TV and DVD player which some families find helps entertain the kids to give Mum and Dad a break. There's a CD stereo in the lounge and another in the games room. Remember to take a selection of CDs with you.We leave many books and magazines for your enjoyment during your stay. General securityIt pays to be vigilant and bring in all personal belongings each night. We ask that you lock the house doors before retiring to bed each night – leaving windows open is fine.Rubbish disposalOur cleaner will remove rubbish from the garage bins at the end of your stay.LaundryThere is an automatic washing machine, tumble dryer and tub located in the laundry. An iron and ironing board are supplied.Cleaning serviceWe provide a cleaning service to launder sheets and towels, remake beds, clean bathrooms, floors etc after your departure. Let's face it - you are on holiday and spending the last day cleaning is not fun for anyone!WalksThere are a number of nice walks that you can do. Here’s a selection:Opononi to OmapereTake a walk towards the west along Opononi Beach. You can walk for several kilometers arriving at the west end of Omapere Beach. It takes about an hour. Take some money for an ice cream which you can buy from the Omapere BP station.Signal StationDrive west through Omapere and turn right at Signal Station Road. At the end of the road there are several walking tracks which take you out on to South Head. The vegetation and views are amazing. This is a must do! You can also walk out to the west coast beach - raw and wild. This is a great way to blow the cobwebs out and feel alive!Forest WalksThere are many kauri forest walks you can do within a short driving distance. Go to the Omapere Vistitors Centre and ask there for directions and maps.Enjoy your stay in paradise!Opononi Beach House Booking Form |
